The Big Five of Africa

This piece represents the Big Five animals of Africa. From left to right, they are the lion, leopard, cape buffalo, black rhino, and African elephant. This project took me over 100 hours to do from start to finish, and it is one of my all time favorites I've made. This piece challenged me in a lot of ways, and I am glad I did not let the intimidation of this piece stop me.

This live edge poplar slab is just shy of being 30 inches long, by roughly 12 inches wide, and 2 inches thick!

My wood burnings use reference photos from the incredible photographer and wildlife artist Sonia Reid! Her website can be found at “soniareid.com”.
